Portugal the Man was started by John Gourley, an Alaskan in Wasilla. Brilliant music for an American. Some songs are evocative...some songs you just love...some songs seem like something else to you until the video changes your lens. This is one of those tunes that I will play until it is worn out...play it until I become numb to its initial awesomeness. The artist's intention is unclear from a cursory review of the top comments on the YouTube channel. I love this juxtaposition of a band becoming an international sensation and current fans not realizing the roots of the artistry. I relate.
