The Fitness Corridor Projects

Fitness Corridors, in the News

Some proposed Fitness Corridors would be new paths linking existing paths.  For instance, there is a need for a link between Tempe Town Lake and the South Canal in Mesa for the communities to connect with Tempe Marketplace and Riverside shops.  Currently, residents east of Dobson do not have an easy-to-navigate and safe route to Tempe Town Lake.  Additionally, Fitness Corridors can be expanded to include new areas for people to explore Arizona's natural beauty and be accessible to more communities.  These trails are marked red in the Google Earth simulation.  These paths are called:

  • The Link

  • Greenbelt Extension Northwest

  • Gila River Extension

Other Fitness Corridors are already created and enjoyed by the surrounding communities.  These are already proven amenities that earn a return for the investments made.  These trails are marked different colors in the Google Earth simulation.  These include:

  • Tempe Town Lake

  • The Greenbelt

  • The Greenbelt North

  • Tempe Town Lake to the Link

  • Alternate to the Link

  • Scottsdale to Tempe Lake via Papago Park

  • a Section of Granite Reef to N. Phoenix

The most extensive sections of the new Fitness Corridors are along existing infrastructure, the canals used by SRP and CAP to move water throughout the state of Arizona.  These canals ensure Greater Phoenix has enough water for its growing cities.  The SRP and CAP have been managing Arizona's water successfully.  The utilities were granted rights of way for these canals and hundreds of miles remain ready for improvement as Fitness Corridors.  These Fitness Corridors are labeled in dark blue.

  • Granite Reef to AZ City

  • Granite Reef to N. Phx.

Google Earth provides a unique ability to interact with the Fitness Corridors as proposed on this website.  Please click the link and Google Earth will open in a new tab/window.  There is a list of different Fitness Corridors; clicking the name will re-orient the map to clearly show the pathway's route.

There is a folder that is for tours of the bike paths.  A user can click one of these tours and be automatically taken on a journey over the mileage of the Fitness Corridor.  There are galleries of photos of these current and proposed additions.
